Functional Responsibilities: (one or more of the following)
  • Performs a variety of logistics tasks concerned with the design, development, and fielding of DoD and commercial systems.
  • Performs logistics functions to include acquisition, supply chain management, integrated logistics support, manpower planning, fabrication, distribution, and transportation.
  • Provides acquisition planning, training program development and implementation, system design/engineering/integration, acquisition/life-cycle management, or test and evaluation in support of government or commercial programs.
  • Procures goods and services to support the project assigned.
  • Provides program management support to include project control, project planning, and cost analysis.
  • Performs systems integration and requirements analysis. Possesses working knowledge of MIL-HDBK-502, DoD Handbook of Acquisition Logistics and MIL-PRF-49506, Performance Specification, Logistics Management Information.
  • Establishes initial logistic support requirements for the maintenance concept, allocation of support requirements, the design for system supportability, design, and development of new elements of logistic support (facilities, supply support, PHS&T, support & test equipment, computer resources, maintenance planning, personnel and manpower, training, technical manuals, and design interface).
  • Performs logistics engineering tasks concerned with the design, development, and fielding of DoD and commercial systems.
  • Provides acquisition planning, training program development, and implementation of systems.
  • Provides design/engineering/integration, integrated logistics support, acquisition/life-cycle management, or test and evaluation in support of government or commercial programs.
  • Develops, directs, coordinates, and controls technical and administrative activities.
  • Makes critical judgments and provides approval on the resolution of technical, schedule, performance, or budgetary problems.
  • Serves as a supervisor over an organization of professional logistics and engineering personnel. Responsible for the development of operating policies, procedures, and resolution of complex logistics and supportability issues impacting the overall program.
  • Provides safe, affordable alternative support solutions for assigned systems and components. Conducts liaison and participates as team member with other DoD components, government activities outside of DoD, private industry, and joint components to develop, refine, implement, and sustain state-of-the-art design interface/maintenance planning processes and concepts.
  • Advises Government Assistant Program Managers for Logistics (APMLs), Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and fleet support teams regarding: analyzing and appraising the development of the design; determining best design characteristics for integrated logistics support (ILS) of systems and equipment; considering projected operational and service support environment, reliability, maintainability and availability requirements; identifying support resources, and defining levels of maintenance and basic maintenance functions; developing life cycle costing to provide support at minimum costs; and evaluating proposed design modifications to existing systems and equipments with regard to the impact of such modifications on logistics.
  • Performs or directs logistics engineering studies and analyses to determine impact of advanced technology and other matters on supportability, or the impact of instructions and directives on logistics engineering.
  • Directs, develops, or performs logistics management operations that involve planning, coordinating, or evaluating the logistical actions required to support a specified mission, weapons system, or other designated program. The work involves (1) identifying the specific requirements for money, manpower, material, facilities, and services needed to support the program and (2) correlating such requirements with program plans to assure that the needed support is provided at the right time and place. Logistics work requires (1) knowledge of agency program planning, funding, and management information systems, (2) broad knowledge of the organization and functions of activities involved in providing logistical support, and (3) the ability to coordinate and evaluate the efforts of functional specialists to identify specific requirements and to develop and adjust plans and schedules for the actions needed to meet each requirement on time. Requires some degree of specialized knowledge of some or all of the logistics support activities involved.
  • Supports a full range of systems by applying theory, concepts, principles, and practices of all aspects of the broad field of logistics management. Provides experience in design interface and maintenance planning as part of the systems engineering processes and provides analyses, technical studies, and reports showing the impact on operational readiness.
  • Performs Failure Modes Effects and Criticality (FMECA) analyses.
  • Performs Level of Repair Analyses (LORA).
  • Performs Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) planning.

 

Job Qualifications:
  • Senior Logistics Engineer 10: BS and not less than 25 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience. Must have not less than 12 years of logistic project management experience.
  • Senior Logistics Engineer 9: BS and not less than 21 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience. Must have not less than 10 years of logistic project management experience.
  • Senior Logistics Engineer 8: BS and not less than 18 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience. Must have not less than 8 years of logistic project management experience.
  • Logistics Engineer 7: BS and not less than 15 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience.
  • Logistics Engineer 6: BS and not less than 12 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience.
  • Logistics Engineer 5: BS and not less than 10 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience.
  • Logistics Engineer 4: BS and not less than 8 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience.
  • Logistics Engineer 3: BS and not less than 6 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience.
  • Logistics Engineer 2: BS and not less than 4 years experience. A MS degree may be substituted for 3 years experience.
  • Logistics Engineer 1: BS and not less than 2 years experience.
