The LME® Asheville office was originally composed of former employees from Stencel Aero Engineering Corporation - a designer of ejection seat systems. The office has been responsible for engineering projects, primarily involving ejection seats, crashworthy seating, small explosive activated devices, and helmet electronics. Numerous Small Business Innovative Research projects (SBIRs) have been initiated in the Asheville office, including the Spinal Preload Piston (SPP) for the U. S. Air Force. With the assistance of local sub-contractors, AH-64 and OH-58D seat cushions are produced in Asheville.
